It's not for us to say

Chances are you are wearing a silly grin, because this is an update to a blog that has seen very little activity lately. We are too busy listing books for sale to really spend much time at blogger dot com anymore. In fact we have branched out to a new blog site, and only sporadically update this blog. It is gone, not forgotten, and unless someone comments on how much they miss the sparkling prose here, we have for all intents and purposes decided to save this blog for special occasions of only earth-shaking proportions. Otherwise visit our new blog which has some links to places that we like to sell our merchandise at:

http://mylynxbooks.com/

Or if you are in a shopping mood, visit it our 1 year old website (it is still a baby) where we have mostly books and a few CDs for sale:

eBay's Blogs are Closing at End of Month

We sell on eBay also, we have our own eBay store, besides the My-Lynx Associates website. We go by the member name hitechandantique. So our store name, for practical purposes is:

I have just started a stand alone blog last months with more information of things I have for sale and some stuff about the books I like. If you look at the website name for blogger above, my website name is too complicated to remember.

I wanted to have something shorter to remember:

eBay is getting rid of their blogs at the end of October, for reasons only known to them. Somehow they must focus on some corporate goals, so the hundreds of entries I have there will vanish into the "bit void" shortly. Some of the people who blog regularly are sort of besides themselves and are somewhat short-tempered, but it is eBay's call, they are paying the bill for the bandwidth.

Right now I am writing a review of a book on codes - as in cryptography which I found earlier in the week, and I am getting ready to sell.

Not Really A Lazy Blogger

Blogging across the universe means that not everything gets covered. I have started a stand alone blog with information on all the different sites that are available, a veritable business empire. This blog is good, but it requires that you know the details of how to bring up the blog. And sometimes, I can't even find it unless I type in My-Lynx Associates Blogspot.

So I decided to branch out and have a stand-alone website name:

mylynxbooks.com

That means no hyphens, no long winded "associates" which is not exactly that easy to remember. And maybe some additional flexibility in terms of routing people to existing book sites. I sell around the Internet, and I don't have a central repository of the links. The new website has all that on the side bar - it makes me think I should have it here as a kind of shadow blog.

We Look At Clouds From Both Sides

Our Online Store: www.my-lynx-associates.com

We hail from Central Texas, and right now we are in the midst of what the weathercasters are calling an "exceptional drought". So we scan the clouds for any trace of rain. And we listen to our only copy, virtually the only one on the Internet as far as we can tell with a live version of "Both Sides" about clouds that get in the way. You can find it on the rare edition of "The Neil Diamond Collection" on CD in the extended list below. It has a soulful rendition of Both Sides Now which includes the Joni Mitchell words:

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall

I really don’t know clouds at all

Apparently this song has become a veritable anthem for anyone interested in cloud-computing as well.

Our tongues are hanging out of our mouths, panting like a furry canine companion as we watch day after day of hot, dry weather. Even the dogs want to stay inside where it is cool, close to the linoleum. Whenever a dog comes over to the My-Lynx Associates World Headquarters for a visit we leap into action. We supply the cool water and the shade as hospitality, but we have too many books to list to keep a full-time watchdog and we don't like the way dogs treat the books, so we need to keep them separate, at least until we make enough sales and monthly revenue to keep him or her in kibble and give them their own separate air-conditioned dog house. We are still thinking rather about a trained goldfish or two to keep an eye on the books.

Anyway, today is a 104 degree day out in the sunshine, so we stay indoors and read books on the weekend. And then we list them for sale. And then we read some more, and list some more, we have close to a thousand for sale. And if you are in the Northeast, we know you folks are getting a lot of dreary weather that is keeping you indoors, sort of damp, cool and rainy. They are talking about the coolest July in the upper Midwest as well. We are dreaming of cool weather like that, but if you are stuck indoors, getting claustrophobia, consider the book. A book can transform ordinary cabin fever into a magical land of enchantment. Here is something to consider: if it is hot and temperatures in the hundreds, is that reverse cabin fever? Or is reverse cabin fever wanting to get into the cabin, not out of the cabin?

Anyway we still have hundreds of books. This is a blog listing of our available inventory at the My-Lynx Associates On-Line Book Store. No going out in the heat to get our books, the trusty Postal Service will brave the heat in their itchy wool shorts to bring you the best of out-of-print, rare, obscure and sometimes just plain strange books. How about a "Short History of Nepal"? We have a rare copy, perhaps the only copy outside of the dusty back streets of Kathmandu.

Want to learn the Moroccan dialect of Arabic? We have the book, with a supplement on Berber in case you need to become a real Nomad. Not the old MP3 player or the killer Star Trek robot machine, but rather the roaming people who live on the move in the Sahara! That would be: "Lonely Planet Moroccan Arabic Phrasebook", an out-of-print edition. And if you need to brush up on your French, their are some Francophone phrases in the book as well, for you old yearning-for-the-old-days Casbah types.

Our Online Store contents as of July 26th 2009, subject to prior sale, click on the link to be whisked to our virtual bookstore:

This is where our inventory list for June was, but it is outdated now, so we deleted it:

June Moon Spoon Waning Gibbous

Our Online Store: www.my-lynx-associates.com

We just missed the full moon last night, we saw it peeking through the venetian blinds as we retired from our long daily labors of bringing in the sheets of paper. Or is that an old hymn? Bringing in the sheaves? We think we learned it from the play / movie "Guys and Dolls".

Anyway we have hundreds of books still waiting to be cataloged and hundreds already for you to order in our highly efficient on-line store. We periodically post an inventory for people to wander through, so they know what is for sale, and you may have come from some obscure referring website via the mysterious way that many folks, completely unknown to us somehow repackage our humble words into some kind of dynamic reference to these very sentences.

We have found that people from India, China, the Middle East have some kind of business model that takes our words or our merchandise and cross-indexes them into our website store my-lynx-associates.COM and presumably make some kind of money. We are not Internet Einsteins about this, though if you read our books, you might become an Einstein yourself. But our brains boggle at the possibilities that people actually do this.

But we are too busy reading our own books to write up some extended descriptions and blogs, so our frontal lobes are beginning to bulge on their own, though we would never claim to be of genius caliber. We thought maybe we might need a special girdle or belt to hold our bulging upper sections in place, since they are starting to sag in an unsightly manner.

On the other hand, egotistically speaking, if one were to claim that one were a genius, then one would automatically be excluded from the true genius category.

And if one were to deny that one were a genius, then common sense would dictate that the person was not a genius, because he would have excluded himself from consideration, and would therefore lack the innate self-confidence of geniushood.

And if one were to use the passive voice too much, one could therefore be dismissed as a mere pedant, a mouther of lofty phrases who lacks the true insight of geniosity. So we should just continue without further diversion to any further obscure dissection of our verbal pyrotechnics, which may have just fizzled.

Those who provide links to our site and use our quotes, we don't ask anyone to do this. Those strange sites that use our words, they just repackage our lists, our precious darlings, our little rectangles of cellulose (that is books to you). And by some mysterious means you are reading these very words. If you live overseas, you need to e-mail us, using the address info@my-lynx-associates.com to arrange for special shipping. We have yet to ship any packages of books (we have a few CDs as well) to Antarctica, Equatorial Africa, Mongolia, Laos, or anywhere on the Tibetan Plateau, but we have received queries from many other out-of-the-way places.

We have received some queries from China, from manufacturers and book-buyers, but we have not signed up for any of their offers. We are based in the Heart Of Texas, Austin, in the United States of America. So if you live in the contiguous 48 states, you are in luck. If you live in Alaska and Hawaii, you have to wait for the Postal Service to put the books on a ship, or a plane if you want to go via Priority Mail. Same for Puerto Rico, books go to Florida, then put in a cargo hold, and take a slow boat. We will ship, you must wait. We don't know about the Outlying Islands, Guam, Micronesia, and other affiliated portions of the United States, but we could definitely find out. You might be covered by the ridiculously paltry Media Mail rates, but we have to ask the proper authorities who deliver our goods.

We ship to APOs for our military, embassies, and other remote outposts of American culture. But you might have to pay extra, we don't know. We have to ask the Men & Women in Blue Wool pants, our well-respected Postal Service employees who trudge thanklessly through the wilderness to deliver your precious package through the dark of night, and the blazing sun of day.

By the way if you have books to sell, and you are in the Austin area, let us know. More likely, if you want to buy our books, click on the link, and it will whisk you to our online store where you can use credit cards or PayPal to enjoy the fruits of our labor. And someday, just beyond tomorrow, we will use or extensive semi-mastery of the English language to start selling books that we write ourselves and close the grand circle of life, to not only sell other people's books, but our own as well. If there is enough demand. If we have enough fans.

But let us post what we have, for the world to see. A numbered list in all its uniform glory, line after line of titles. If you like symmetrical lists, you are finally reaching the high point of our essay. Here is the website address again, in case you did not see it already: Our Online Store:

December 2009 update to this blog entry: This post has been copied all over the Internet for whatever nefarious purposes that people cut and paste content from one place to another. We are not really complaining, but it is often unsettling to see one's words in all sort of other contexts. We removed the list of books posted here that was something of a attention getter as outdated, but you may want to go to the new place to see a more frequently updated list:

More Showers Bring May Flowers (of Books)

We have books coming out our ears, hundreds of them. It is May and we have them stacked to the ceiling. Old books, new books, out-of-print books, rare books. We sell them online to those who are interested. We ship them out as quickly as possible. You can find us via the link on the right, labeled My-Lynx Associates or just type in My-Lynx Associates in your favorite search engines to find our other sales outlets. We sell books every day, we get up early and look to see if we sold anything overnight from around the world. Sometimes we go into the office in the wee hours of the early morn, when the moon is bright, hoping that a customer somewhere on the globe has purchased one of our tomes.

We live and breath books. Well, we don't actually inhale them, but the smell of books is seldom far away from our sensorium. We go to sleep at night and dream of stacks of books, carefully lined up, with helpful and smiling sales help waiting to help us with our labors. We wake up and can't wait to let others know that we are ready to sell.

We sell books on the arts, medicine, history, business, even comic books. We don't want to compare ourselves to the Library of Alexandria, but we would like to eventually be an outpost of civilization, a veritable bulwark of refinement in a world of uniform, homogenized and carefully considered planning. We are not very uniform, all our books are different, and while we don't have anything against homogenization, we prefer ours unhomogenized and definitely spontaneous. We don't plan our purchases, we sell odd items, out-of-print items and things we like for ourselves. Some of our books are one-of-a-kind. How about a tour guide to the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza? No one else has it. How about a child's book of stories called "Pixie Tales" imported years ago from Great Britain? That would be hard to find also. We don't run these by focus groups and grind down our marketing into demographic groups. You found us because you saw something you wanted. So find the Page Down key on your keyboard and click down through the offerings. They are organized by rough Alphabetical order.

You might have come to this place through a cached memory link in a search engine, or a mysterious quote in some other website (we say mysterious because chunks of this blog are cut and pasted for reasons only known to those websites and their webmasters, we have no agreements as of yet with other folks who might have other agendas for our memorable phrases) and this list (that was here of books and other items and is now removed), is somewhat outdated anyway. I have moved the lengthy list of available books to the following website / web blog as of December 2009:

April Spring Inventory

Mostly books is what we have for sale - paperbacks, hardback books, old books, new books, ancient tomes, modern stuff too, maybe we will get some of those new-fangled e-books if we can figure out how to fit them into a virtual envelope. Books are what we are selling. Here is our Spring list, a seasonal selection.

This is our inventory for what is on sale as April 9th 2009. (Update, we removed the list as of December 2, 2009, we are doing a lot of posting on our own stand-alone blog site now, see the link below, or if you don't want to bother with that, we get hyperlinks for cheap at wholesale prices, we will put one right here:

The books are grouped alphabetically with the numbers on top a few stragglers at the end which are sorted out because their title are in lower case. Click on the link to see the items categorized into sections. If you choose to visit, be sure and check the "other" category for an additional large unsorted grouping that we assign to categories as we find time. If you found this website while doing a web-search, you can contact us through the website, there is an e-mail address there that you can use. We are always adding inventory. (For that matter we are always selling inventory as well, so scoop up your selection. This list is a snapshot of today's inventory, and is subject to prior sale.

Many of these books are out-of-print, some are hard-to-find and a here and there we have the only ones available on the Internet, which some might consider "rare".

Link to My-Lynx Associates Bookstore / Web Site

And right here, until December 2, 2009 we had a list of hundreds of items that we had for sale, you might find this blog posting via a cached entry in a search engine, or more mysteriously as something that somebody cut and pasted into their own website as some kind of homage to us. In any case, we will be keeping the list over at our new blog, and updating it more frequently.

Check out our foreign language section

We have a number of items in our growing foreign language section. These books are often unobtainable domestically, or at best cost quite a bit of money because of high international shipping rates. You might find something of interest here. We have books in German, Spanish, French and even some vocabulary books in Japanese.

Captain James Cook, Navigator, Explorer

Perhaps one of the greatest explorers of history was Captain James Cook, who sailed the world, discovering Tahiti, New Zealand, sailing south to Australia, making observations of the rare astronomical event, the Transit of Venus across the face of the sun from Tahiti. He captained his men with bold courage, going where no one from Europe had gone before. When his men anchored in Tahiti, they discovered the islanders knew the art of tatooing, and so a for the first time the long-established custom was begun with sailors getting tatoos. He was an accomplished captain, navigator and explorer.

He discovered the Hawaiian Islands, brought along scientists who explored and collected plants and animals and met with exotic peoples that were unknown to Europeans. This is a catalog, presumably for a show at the National Maritime Museum in London. It is illustrated with paintings, artifacts, telescope, barometer, chronometers and other tools of exploration used on the voyages. A fascinating and hard to find document of the life of a man whose adventures are the stuff of legend. Today is the Anniversary of Cook's discovery of Hawaii: January 18, 1778.

Our latest offerings as of January 12th

Another long list of items for sale at our online bookstore. They are alphabetized, with some reservations. That means that if the database has a quotation in the title it gets placed first in the list. And of course the grammar articles like the letter "a" and "the" all get sorted in together. So if you are an author, you might consider that when naming your book. But this list seems to be mostly OK. These are mostly books, with a growing number of CDs available.

The link below is the best place to find all these items in case you wandered in here from a handy search engine like Google or Yahoo. These are books that are for sale, not a personal collection, but available to people like you with credit cards or PayPal. We try to ship them from here in Texas within one business day, maybe two at the most. We are friendly folks and welcome your comments or insights about books.

Go here to find them: http://www.my-lynx-associates.com/

Just sign up for an account, name and address and so on, and you can own one of these marvelous selections. One proviso: they are subject to prior sale. So keep an eye on the one you want. It may not be here forever. Some of these items are one of a kind, meaning that they are not available elsewhere on the Internet. People are holding on to the other copies. We try and keep our prices close to the big bookselling websites, and we update prices frequently, so if you think it is too much, it is probably because that is what the big boys are charging. We attempt to keep our items a little lower than most for a majority of our items. Sometimes the book is signed or is fairly rare, or we are the only ones that have it, so we might charge proportionally more. But not always. We are still sorting through the category called "other" which has lots of items that were not pre-sorted when we set up the web site. So click on the "other" category to see the potpourri of items.

You might have come to this particular blog entry through a cached memory link in a search engine, or an enigmatic quotation in some other place, perhaps even some distant place in China or the Middle East that needed some English prose to make their website sparkle. We consider it a homage, but we don't know the specific reason that our prose is cut and pasted elsewhere. But as of December 2nd, 2009 this list (that was here of books and other items and is now removed), is somewhat outdated anyway. I have moved the lengthy list of available books to the following website / web blog as of December 2009:
